the platinum-iridium cylinder that is the official kilogram (made back in the late 1800s) seems to be losing weight. the loss is small, only the mass of a grain of salt, but it is enough of a change to force scientists to try to find another way of determining the weight of a kilogram.
would this not mean that there will be a new standard of weight measurement? i mean, the original weight of the kilogram is gone forever, any attempt to find it again will be guesswork, right? they should just start again with a new measurement. i suggest the name danielgram, has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

those bastards will probably just stick to the old kilogram and gram and try to find something as in : Exactly X amount of Y isotopes of atom Z will be one KG.
Just like with time.

the fact that THE kilogram is kept in an air-tight
chamber, along with other various objects representing
the alternate weights and measurements, just goes
to show how absolutely absurd the whole notion
of weight/measurement is.
these people are taking this so seriously. its
as if the world has lost the keys to its car
and its 15 minutes late for work already.

So.. what is a pound based on?
Wasn't it something like a certain amount of barley?
